Kidney scarring causes loss of kidney function. New insights into approaches to decrease scarring are needed, as current approaches do not stop ongoing scarring and end stage kidney disease. We have found that thymosin β4 decreases scarring in late stages of injury. We will now determine the specific cells and mechanisms, and potential for reversal of scarring with treatment with thymosin β4.
